Women’s national football team gets rewards for AFF champ title

The national women's football team becomes the champion of the AFF Women's Championship 2019. 

 

 

The Vietnam Olympic Committee (VOC) has decided to reward the national women’s football team with 500 million VND (21,500 USD) for the title of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Championship 2019.

The team defeated defending champions Thailand 1-0 in the final with the only goal scored by captain Huynh Nhu in extra time.

It has been seven years since the team's last trophy at the tournament and their third overall and is their third title to date.

The reward decision was signed by President of the VOC Nguyen Ngoc Thien who is also Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The minister expressed his hope that the squad will uphold the achievements to obtain the highest result at the 30th Southeast Asia Games (SEA Games 30) to be held later this year in the Philippines.

Earlier, the team was rewarded 1.3 billion VND (55,900 USD) by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), including 300 million VND for going through the group qualifying round, 400 million VND for overcoming the semi-finals and 600 million VND for the trophy.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also sent his congratulations to the team, saying that he appreciated its determination and bravery during the tournament and wished the squad good luck for future tournaments.
