The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has revealed the squad for the men’s football team that will compete in the upcoming King’s Cup 2019 in Thailand. Here are five things to take away from the list:
1. No overseas or foreign-born players included
Despite being touted for selection, a number of overseas Vietnamese players such as Alexander Dang, Filip Nguyen, Jason Pendant, Martin Lo, Mac Hong Quan, and Adriano Schmidt have been left out of the squad.
2. Injured players
Nguyen Tuan Anh and Vu Van Thanh of HAGL FC, in addition to Nguyen Trong Hoang of Viettel, are yet to fully recover from a long injury layoffs. Despite this, head coach Park Hang Seo still has faith in them and has put them into his squad.
3. Playing for foreign clubs isn’t a drawback
Cong Phuong, who is currently playing for the Republic of Korea’s Incheon United FC, Xuan Truong who is at Thailand’s Buriram FC, and Dang Van Lam of Thailand’s Muangthong FC, have all been called up to the national team.
4. The return of Anh Duc
Korean coach Park Hang Seo has successfully persuaded Anh Duc to make a comeback for the national team after previously deciding to withdraw from the squad.
5.Goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung has been left out
Bui Tien Dung will not take part in the King’s Cup 2019 as he has been selected to play in the upcoming U23 friendly match between Vietnam and Myanmar on June 7.
