Thai coach Kiatisak Senamuang of Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) football club has refuted rumours that he would leave his HAGL FC and return to Thailand to coach national team.
“No problems. I am staying here very long,” Kiatisak wrote on his social media account on September 24, uploading pictures in which he was celebrating victory with HAGL FC boss Doan Nguyen Duc and his players.
Thai media outlets earlier reported that Kiatisak, known as Thailand’s Zico, could leave HAGL FC and return to lead the Thai team.
Kiatisak had coached the Thai team for several years, helping the team win two AFF titles and two SEA Games titles.
After the legendary football star left Thailand for Vietnam to coach HAGL FC two years ago, Thailand have dropped considerably in the FIFA rankings. So Kiatisak is the leading candidate for the vacant coaching seat in the Thai team.
Kiatisak has signed a two-year contract with HAGL FC which is scheduled to expire by the end of 2022. In his first season, he helped GAGL FC secure a convincing top spot with a series of 11 unbeaten matches at V-League – Vietnam’s No1 football tournament.
Currently, Kiatisak has flown to Thailand after V-League’s 2021-2022 season was postponed till early 2022 due to COVID-19. He plans to return to Vietnam in January 2022 to prepare for V-League and AFC Champions League fixtures.
Former Thailand striker Piyapong Pue-on believes Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) coach Kiatisak Senamuang could replace Park Hang-seo as the head coach of the national team in the near future.
