AGMK put pressure the Vietnamese side from the start with quick counter-attacking play.
Just six minutes in, after receiving a pass from Davron Choriev, Akbar Usmonov scored the opener for the side from Uzbekistan.
Thái Sơn Nam, who finished runners-up in 2018, found an answer just five minutes later.
Assisted by Van Vu, Nguyen Minh Tri scored a beautiful left-footed volley from 15 metres out to level the score.
After the break, Thai Son Nam bounced back strongly to score three more goals.
In the remaining time, AGMK piled on the pressure but they failed to find the net.
Thai Son Nam will take on Al Rayyan SC of Qatar today and Nafit Al Wasat of Iraq two days later.
Thai Son Nam are in Group B, which is considered the toughest of the four groups thanks to the presence of two rivals – Naft Al Wasat and Al Rayyan SC – along with rookies AGMK. VNS
