The Vietnam Football Federation and the Vietnam Olympic Committee had previously submitted a proposal to the organizing board of the SEA Games, asking for the rearrangement of the seeding groups due to a scoring error between Vietnam and Singapore.

Accordingly, Vietnam’s U22 side earned a total of 10 points from five matches in Group B, which featured six teams, whilst Singapore’s U22 got six points from four matches in Group A, which had five teams.

As a result, Vietnam are now ranked above Singapore in accordance with FIFA and AFC regulations which are applied in the event that groups have uneven numbers.

After re-checking, the organizing board of the SEA Games accepted Vietnam’s proposal and placed the Vietnamese men’s football team among the third seeding group as opposed to the fourth group.

Meanwhile, host nation the Philippines have been placed among the first seeding group along with defending champions Thailand.

Indonesia and Malaysia both find themselves in the second seeding group, whilst Myanmar and Vietnam are among the third seeds.

Joining Singapore as fourth seeds are Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, and Timor-Leste.
