The Vietnamese national futsal team have jumped three notches to sixth in the Asian region’s latest rankings following their good performance at the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021 taking place in Lithuania.
According to the latest FIFA Futsal rankings, Vietnam have shown the most progress among the Top 15 in Asia, while the remaining 14 teams have either maintained their positions or dropped their position.
Vietnam had successfully cruised into the knockout stage after trouncing Panama 3-2, drawing 1-1 against the Czech Republic, and losing 9-1 to stronger Brazil side in Group D.
However, Vietnam lost 3-2 to the world’s fourth-placed team in Russia in a dramatic knockout game.
Their good performance also helped the team jump from 44th to 39th place in the latest global rankings.
Top three remain unchanged with Spain, Brazil, and Argentina, respectively.
The Asian region saw the top position go to Iran, followed by Japan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Australia.
Vietnam are expected to have a tricky journey at the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup later this year, as they have been drawn in a tough group with five-time champions Brazil.
