The Vietnamese men’s national football team have dropped on 3 place and are now ranked 97th in the world, according to the latest FIFA rankings released for June.
This fall can be attributed to the strong performance of Haiti who enjoyed victories over Costa Rica, Bermuda, and Nicaragua during the 2019 Gold Cup.
After securing three wins in the group stage, the Haitian team added 47.7 points to their ranking, leaving them with a total of 1266.7 points. As a result, the team rose 11 places from 101st to 90th positions in the rankings.
With this, Vietnam have been forced to drop one place to 97th after previously rising by two places to 96th in the world.
The Vietnamese team still remain ranked as the 15th best team in Asia.
The national team have been seeded in group two for the upcoming draw of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers, which is scheduled to take place on July 17 in Malaysia.
