Tuan, who is chairman of the AFC’s Competitions Committee, will take charge of the tournament which will be organised on January 8-26 in Thailand. Vietnam will also take part.

It is the third time Tuan has managed a continent-leveled event after he successfully ran the football competition at the Asian Games in 2014 in South Korea and this year's Asian Cup in the UAE.

"I will try my best to coordinate with other members in the board to make a successful championship, making it as impressive as the last edition (in China)," said Tuan.

"Hopefully, Vietnam will have a good result and win a place at the Tokyo Olympics," he added.

The AFC U23 tournament sees the participation of 16 teams and will be held in four different venues.

Vietnam, first runners-up of the 2018 edition, are to play the UAE, Jordan and North Korea in the group round.
