Ly Hoang Nam is scheduled to participate in the M15 Sharm El Sheikh Tournament 2021 which is due to start on October 4 in Egypt, thereby becoming the first Vietnamese player to play internationally for nearly two years due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nam has been seeded No. 2 at the tournament, behind top seed Marat Deviatiarov of Ukraine.

The M15 tennis tournament is due to last through to October 10, with total prize money worth up to US$15,000 on offer.

The event will mark the return of Hoang Nam competing in global tournaments in the system of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) after 18 months. Most recently, he was disqualified from the first round of the 2020 ATP Challenger Tour in March last year.

Nam is currently 784th in the ATP’s rankings. He won the boy’s doubles title alongside his Indian partner Sumit Nagal in the 2015 Wimbledon Championships, thereby becoming the first Vietnamese tennis player to win a Grand Slam trophy.

Most notably, in 2019 he bagged a gold medal in the singles’ tennis event at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
