Vietnam’s U23 team, led by head coach Park Hang-seo, were able to win two points from three matches, finishing bottom of Group D as a result and being ranked as the competition’s 13th best side overall.

Finishing below the Vietnamese team were Bahrain, Japan, and China, all of whom finished last in their respective groups.

Elsewhere, Iran’s U23s have been placed in ninth position following four points from three matches, followed by Iraq, Qatar, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

The AFC rankings help classify the seedings for the qualification and final rounds of the next version of the AFC U23 Championships in two years.

Following the end of the tournament’s group stages eight teams will compete in the quarter-finals of the AFC U23 Championship, including Australia and host nation Thailand from Group A, Saudi Arabia and Syria from Group B, the Republic of Korea and Uzbekistan from Group C, in addition to the United Arab Emirates and Jordan from Group D.

From this year’s Vietnam U23 squad a total of six footballers will still be eligible for the AFC U23 Championships in 2022, including Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nham Manh Dung, Tran Bao Toan, Nguyen Huu Thang, Nguyen Van Toan, and Y Eli Nie.

Qualifiers for the AFC U23 Championship 2022 are scheduled to take place in 2021. VOV
