The city of Hanoi embraces a long list of traditional craft villages. From north, south, east and west, craft villages in the city and beyond were born centuries ago to supply to the ancient citadel of the past.

Pham Ngoc Toan is one of the last artisans that still hold on to the craft of hand-carving wood stamp in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

Wandering around the hustling and bustling streets in Hanoi, visitors will be surprised by ancient and mossy village gates, beside modern buildings. The traditional cultural features are preserved within the village gates.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has recorgnized two traditional festivals of Hanoi as national intangible cultural heritages - “Moc villages festival” and “The sisterhood celebration ceremony between Phu My and Kieu Mai villages”.

A series of activities to spotlight the cultural identities of the capital city of Hanoi will be held from November 20 to December 15.

Culture researcher Huu Ngoc has been awarded Grand Prize at the Bui Xuan Phai - For the Love of Ha Noi Awards for lifelong research and huge contribution to popularising Ha Noi culture.

The first “Memory of Hanoi” event, to be held at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long from December 30, 2015 – January 4, 2016, will bring back to life the images and culture of the ancient capital city.
