Vietnam needs stronger human resources to serve the growing integrated circuit (IC) industry to create greater investment opportunities.

VietNamNet Bridge - The industry to manufacture devices for the future HCMC smart city has been taking shape over the last 12 months.

“If Malaysians can manufacture semiconductor integrated circuits, Vietnamese will also be able to do this. Vietnamese may lag behind Japanese, for many reasons, but they must not be behind Malaysia,” said Nguyen Xuan Thuy from MTEX Vietnam.

Two years ago, news about the achievements in the IC (integrated circuit) industry often appeared in local newspapers. But since the beginning of 2017, there have been just sporadic pieces of news.

 VietNamNet Bridge – Saigon Semiconductor Technology Inc. has been awarded an investment certificate to build a factory in HCMC’s District 9 that costs more than US$257.5 million for making semiconductor integrated circuits.

HCM City has kicked off the project to develop the IC industry, planning to make investment in all phases from training, designing to production and commercialization.
