Before the opening ceremony of the forum, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other delegates visited an exhibition displaying Vietnamese technological products in different spheres.

Themed “Aspiration, Vision and Strategy for a Prosperous Vietnam” and with the action slogan of “Make in Vietnam,” the forum aims to build up a community of Vietnamese technological companies.

It is expected to turn domestic technological firms into momentum to create economic breakthroughs, thus helping Vietnam escape from the middle-income trap and become a developed nation.

The forum brought together about 1,000 delegates representing the Government, ministries, agencies and localities, along with hundreds of domestic and foreign experts and businesspeople in the field of technology.

They are discussing a range of issues such as technology-related problems in Vietnam, how to move out of the middle-income trap, policies and solutions to develop Vietnamese technological firms, and solutions to connect them with organisations and enterprises operating in other economic sectors like agriculture, health care and public services.

Before the opening ceremony of the forum, PM Phuc and other delegates visited an exhibition displaying Vietnamese technological products in different spheres.

Last year, the information-technology sector gained some 98.9 billion USD in revenue, 94 billion USD of which came from export activities, and enjoyed a trade surplus of some 26 billion USD.

Besides contributing nearly 50 trillion VND (2.16 billion USD) to the state budget, the sector also created more than 1 million jobs for local workers, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam said at a press conference in Hanoi on May 6.-VNA
