Because of a new policy, locked iPhones from Verizon will be unlocked after 60 days of use if they meet some conditions.
Some users said their locked iPhones, after being unlocked, can be used like international versions with full functions. Users can change sims, update software, and carry out the operation ‘Delete all content and settings’.
Previously, to unlock the devices, users had to buy codes from mobile network operators. However, it took much time and the cost was relatively high.
A user to had pay VND2-5 million for the code, depending on the iPhone models and network operators.
All the locked iPhones which can be upgraded into international are products from Verizon, a network operator in the US, and they have been carried to Vietnam by individuals across border gates.

The devices that users buy from Verizon will be locked for 60 days to operate exclusively on Verizon to reduce theft or fraudulent activities. After 60 days, the lock will be removed.
The notice was released on July 19, which means that the mobile phones sold from Verizon, including iPhone, since July 19 will be covered bythe policy.
To be able to get unlocked free of charge, locked iPhones need to satisfy some requirements and the devices must be sold by Verizon. The products must not be on the black list of the network operator and they must not be reported as lost.
Currently, other network operators in the US, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, do not support the unlocking.
Quang Trung from a private iPhone shop on Cau Giay street saidthe locked iPhone market would be busy again, but predicted the selling prices would increase. If this happens, locked iPhones would not retain their advantages in comparison with international versions.

Buyers who want an iPhone 11s can choose either products imported to Vietnam through unofficial ways or locked products. Officially distributed products will not be available until the end of October.
