Older-generation iPhone prices drop strongly

iPhone XS Max is being sold at VND25-27 million, a sharp fall of VND3 million from the previous month.

Large retail chains have slashed the selling prices of a series of older-generation iPhone models, a move to pave the way for the official sale of iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.

iPhone XS Max is offered at VND27 million for 64 GB version and VND33 million for 256 GB version, or VND3 million lower than the previous month.

Meanwhile, iPhone X and XS both have had prices decrease by VND1.5 million for the 64 GB version to VND21.5 million and VND25.5 million, respectively. The price of iPhone XR has decreased by VND2 million to VND18 million for the 128 GB version.

“The slashing of prices of old models is in line with the market. It is expected that the trio of iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max will be officially distributed in Vietnam by authorized resellers from November 1,” said Nguyen Bich Hanh from FPT Shop.

According to Nguyen Huy Tan, the media executive of a retail chain in Hanoi, the sales of old-generation iPhone such as XS and XS Max have decreased considerably and it is necessary to give a push to boost the sales of the models again.

In the unofficial distributionmarket, many private shops have also begun slashing the selling prices. iPhone XS and XS Max are offered at VND16 million and VND19 million, respectively, for 64 GB version, a decrease of VND1 million compared with one month before.

The prices of older models such as iPhone X and 8 Plus have seen only small changes. iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X 64 GB are sold at VND11.3 million and VND14.6 million.

“Just one month after arriving in Vietnam, the selling prices of the trio of iPhone 11 began sliding. This forced the prices of old models down,” said Nguyen Hoang Giang, the owner of a private shop on Nguyen Khang street in Hanoi.

Currently, the price if iPhone XS Max is equal to iPhone 11.

However, according to Vu Duy, the owner of a retail chain on Cau Giay street in Hanoi, people tend to choose used iPhone XS Max, though iPhone 11 is the latest model. iPhone XS Max can give a better experience with large screen, better display and durable battery.

Meanwhile, a used iPhone SE is being offered at VND2 million only for 16 GB version. Launched in 2016, it has the design of an iPhone 5S and a configuration similar to iPhone 6S.
