Anh and her colleagues received the prestigious award of PEPS for an article entitled “soil salinity assessment by using near-infrared channel and vegetation soil salinity index derived from Landsat & OLI data: a case study in the Tra Vinh Province, Mekong Delta, Vietnam.”

The study proposes a method that estimates soil salinity using satellite-derived variables, which can be applied with low cost and considerable accuracy.

Outcomes of this study are useful for agricultural activities, planners, and farmers by mapping the soil salinity contamination for better selection of crop types to reduce economical loss in the context of climate change.

Kim Anh is now engaging in post-doctoral research at the Centre for Space and Remote Sensing Research under Taiwan National Central University.

Anh told Vietnam News Agency reporters that the research idea stems from the increasingly complex situation of saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta, which seriously affects farmers' lives and agricultural development strategies in the largest rice bowl of Vietnam. Therefore, she wanted to contribute to monitoring and assessing the situation as well as forecasting the salinity regularly so that managers can take timely response solutions.

PEPS is a prestigious Japanese journal with a high Impact Factor, which often publishes specialised research works with practical applications.

The “Most downloaded paper award” is presented annually to individuals and groups of authors with valuable research works, which are reviewed based on the quality of the articles as well as the number of followers and downloads.

In addition to the above-mentioned article, Dr. Kim Anh also has 12 scientific articles published in reputable foreign scientific journals in the list of International Scientific Indexing (ISI).

Currently, she is also chosen to be the communications ambassador for the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) in charge of the Asia-Pacific region./.
