Nguyen Van Huong, head of the centre’s Climate Forecasting Department, said that the chilly weather would affect northern and northern central localities in Vietnam from the evening of December 30.

The cold front would also bring light rain for the north and last for 3-4 days.

"It's likely that people in northern localities would enjoy the upcoming New Year Holiday in bone-chilling weather,” Huong added.

He noted that central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh would have the same weather during this time. Meanwhile, heavy rains have been predicted for some other localities in the central region, including Quang Tri.

The Central Highlands would see rains with strong winds during the New Year holiday.

In January 2021, the northern region’s temperature would be 0.5-1 degree centigrade lower than the same period in previous years, the lowest level in the year. In the month, the north would have 4-5 cold spells. Dtinews
