The embankment, located in the northern residential area of Dong Da Street, was damaged by strong waves when a typhoon hit the area last October.

About 400m of the embankment collapsed while under construction, causing VND2 billion (US$87,000) worth of damage, Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper reported.

The total expected length of the embankment is 642m if its construction is completed with total investment of nearly VND12 billion ($522,000).

According to technical experts, rising sea water combined with floods and strong winds caused wave damage.

An incomplete drainage system was the reason for the embankment’s erosion on the surface and in the underground area.

Construction mistakes were also listed as one of the reasons for the collapse.

The People’s Committee of Quy Nhon City will take responsibility for the incident.
