Four students drown in Mui Ne

Four tourists who are students have drowned after being washed away by strong waves while swimming at a beach in Phan Thiet City, the southern coastal province of Binh Thuan.

The victims belonged to a group of 12 young people aged between 18-19 from Lam Dong Province who came to stay at a guesthouse in Phan Thiet City on the morning of August 22.

All of them were students of universities in HCM City.

In the afternoon, seven of them went out to a nearby beach for a swim despite strong winds and waves.

Six of them were swept away. Local people were able to rescue two people while four others remained missing until they were found dead late at night.

Local rescue teams had found and recovered the last body at 11.40pm on August 22. 

On August 12, two tourists also drowned after being washed away in strong waves while swimming in Binh Thuan beach.

Local authorities in the province have warned tourists about strong wind and waves in local beaches at this time.
