The tremors caused them to be dizzy, while some of their furniture shook slightly.

Dr Nguyen Xuan Anh, head of Institute of Geophysics, told Dantri online that the phenomenon in Hanoi this morning was caused by a 4.7-magnitude earthquake in the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang’s Trung Khanh District at the depth of 10 kilometres.

The incident frightened lots of local people who immediately rushed out of their house. No damage about the earthquake have been reported.

According to Anh, Vietnam is located in the area which can experience light and medium earthquakes.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Geophysics have kept a close eye on possible risks to the public.

Localities are also urged to check construction works, particularly high-rise buildings and reservoirs, to adopt safety solutions in case of earthquake risks.

On November 21, many people at apartments in Hanoi experienced light shakes, which were said to be the impact of a 6.1-magnitude earthquake in Laos.

On November 25, Hanoi also experienced the same situation as the result of another quake in Cao Bang. Dtinews
