Hanoi sets public high school enrolment quota

As many as 23,000 pupils in Hanoi will not get a place at public high schools in the new school year as Hanoi Department of Education and Training has set enrolment quotas.

For 2019-2020 school year, 122 public high schools in Hanoi are allowed to enrol no more than 67,235 students into 1,513 classes. As of now, it is estimated that 101,452 students will attend the secondary school graduation exam and 90,000 students have applied for public high schools.

23,000 who cannot get into public high schools will be forced to attend private schools or vocational schools.

May 3 is also the deadline for the students to submit their application to high schools for the 2019-2020 academic year at their schools. Students studying outside of Hanoi can submit their applications at localities departments of education in Hanoi.


Hanoi Department of Education and Training will announce the list and the number of students to each school on May 10 so that the students will understand more about the coming competition. Those who want to change their desired schools can submit the application from May 15 to 16.

The high school entrance exam this year last from June 2 to 5. This is the first time students will have to take four subjects for the exam instead of three. This year subjects are maths, literature, history and a foreign language.
