Students at teacher training colleges will be provided with a VND3.6m (USD155) grant for living expenses

The draft decree about student's loans for students at teacher training universities and colleges was announced by the Ministry of Education and Training in order to attract more students to the education sector. The students will enjoy tuition exemptions which must not exceed the ceiling fee in accordance with the law.

Moreover, they will get a monthly VND3.6m in maintenance grant. The amount will be adjusted depending on the officially announced CPI in the previous year. The duration of tuition and living expenses would be based on the actual months of studying at the universities but must not exceed 10 months an academic year.

After graduation, the time students work in the education sector must at least double the time they study at university, starting since the day they are employed. If they do not work in the education sector within two years after graduation or do not meet the required time period, they must repay the grant.

Students that suddenly drop out of university, are expelled or change to another sector must also repay the grant. Suspended students will not be eligible for the grant during the suspension. Students that must take a leave of absence due to sickness, failed classes will be reviewed.

The new decree is expected to take effect from the 2020-2021 academic year.

The ministry will gather opinions for the decree until March 17.
