Vietnam aims to secure at least 150 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to inoculate its population by the end of 2021 or early 2022.

Of the total, VND1.299 trillion has been transferred to the fund, according to the management board of the fund.

During the inauguration ceremony of the fund on June 5, businesses, banks and individuals pledged to contribute thousands of billions of VND to the fund.

The fund’s management agency has opened 12 accounts at State Treasury branches and three commercial banks, namely BIDV, Vietcombank and HDBank.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in late May 2021 decided to establish the Vietnam COVID-19 Vaccine Fund to receive, manage and use funding to be contributed by organizations and individually locally and overseas, for the purchase and import of vaccines, research and production of vaccines for domestic use.

The fund is managed by the Ministry of Finance.

Vietnam has so far confirmed 5,656 locally transmitted coronavirus cases, including 18 deaths, since the virus recurred in late April during the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 1 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered since the launch of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in March.
