Huynh Binh Thai, head of the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, said the canoe, owned by Lam Hai Company, was carrying 25 Chinese tourists to Nha Trang Bay.

After the tourists got off the canoe to visit Hon Mun Island, two employees tied it up at the nearby Hon Mot Island when the fire broke out, the local media reported.
