Two Vietnamese schools in world’s top 1,000 universities

Vietnam National University - Hanoi and Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City have been included in the top 1,000 best universities in the world in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2022, which was released on June 9.

The rankings were released by Quacquarelli Symonds (the UK), with the participation of nearly 1,300 universities worldwide, up 10% from last year. It is the largest QS rankings so far.

The US is still home to the top universities in the world with five universities in the top 10 (also in the top 10 last year), including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Harvard University, California Institute of Technology and the University of Chicago.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has been ranked number 1 in the world for 10 years in a row and won perfect scores in research assessments and employer assessments.

This year, Oxford University (UK) rose to second place (up 3 places compared to last year). The UK has four representatives in the top 10, Oxford University, Cambridge University, Imperial College London and University College London (UCL).

Vietnam has two representatives in the ranking: Vietnam National University - Hanoi and Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City. Both belong to group 801-1000. Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City has the highest score for the criterion academic reputation of Vietnamese universities participating in the ranking.

Of the 1,300 universities in the ranking, Vietnam’s Ton Duc Thang University ranked in group 1001 – 1200 and Hanoi University of Science and Technology was named in the 1201+ group.

 

The ranking includes 305 Asian universities and 492 schools from Europe.

Southeast Asia has a total of 60 universities in the rankings. The highest ranked university in Southeast Asia is the National University of Singapore, ranked 11th globally and earning the highest score in the academic reputation index in SE Asia. Malaysia has the highest number of universities, 22 schools, followed by Indonesia with 16 universities.

The QS World University Rankings 2022 rank universities based on six criteria, including academic reputation (40%), employer reviews (10%), number of citations/lecturers (20%), lecturer/student ratio (20%), and international lecturer and international student ratio (10%).

The criteria emphasize the contribution and impact of the university's quality of training and research to society (through assessment of domestic and foreign businesses, scholars) and contributions to scientific research activities (via the number of citations/lecturers).
