This shipment was transported directly from Pfizer's factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA. More than 1.2 million doses arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on October 7-8, and nearly 790,000 doses arrived in Hanoi on October 8 and 13.

So far, the US has aided Vietnam with a total of 9.5 million vaccine doses and many more vaccines will be presented to Vietnam in the coming time.

The US has assisted Vietnam to improve its capacity to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic as part of the long-term cooperation between the two countries in the field of healthcare.

The US has provided Vietnam with nearly 1 billion USD in recent year to develop its health infrastructure. In addition, since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, the US has committed $26.7 million aid to help Vietnam respond to the pandemic.

The US has provided more than 175 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to more than 100 countries around the world. Vietnam is one of the largest recipients of Covid-19 vaccines from the US.

COVAX, the overarching effort to accelerate development and access to COVID vaccines, is co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the World Health Organization (WHO) working in partnership with UNICEF as well as the World Bank, manufacturers and civil society organizations, and others.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on October 12 sent a letter to his US counterpart Joe Biden thanking the US Government for helping Vietnam with vaccines, medicine and medical supplies to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. ​
