Speaking on June 11 Nguyen Minh Tri, director of the Quang Ngai Province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the festival is set to draw the participation of 120 paragliders from 10 countries worldwide including Japan, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Britain, Malaysia, Laos, and from the host nation, Vietnam.

Mr Tri noted that the four-day festival will be one of many activities held to mark 30 years since the re-establishment of Quang Ngai province and to celebrate the second Ly Son Culture and Tourism Week.

The take-off point is to be located at the top of Thoi Loi mountain on Ly Son island. The mountain is one of five dormant volcanoes on the island, and stands at 170m above sea level.

The paragliding festival will be one of many events taking place during the second Ly Son Culture and Tourism Week which is being held on June 21-25.

Other events held on the island include a fireworks show, a boat race, and a photo exhibition.

The event is expected to attract approximately 15,000 visitors to the island. VOV
