The opening ceremony of the paragliding festival titled “Flying over rising water on terraced paddies” was held on May 25 in Cao Pha commune of Mu Cang Chai district in the northern province of Yen Bai.
In attendance at the ceremony were Yen Bai province’s leaders, over 100 pilots, paragliders, and thousands of local and foreign visitors.
This year’s edition marks the third year that the paragliding festival has been held in Yen Bai.
The paragliding spot is located in the middle of the Khau Vai pass and has a height of 1,200 metres above sea level.
It is widely considered one of the nation’s most beautiful paragliding spots.
Luong Thi Xuyen, vice chairman of the Mu Cang Chai district People’s Committee, said this year’s paragliding festival will take place over the weekend on May 25 and May 26.
In order to meet the demands of visitors, subsequent weekends will see 10 pilots continuing to conduct flights.
Aside from enjoying the impressive performances put on by local and foreign paragliders and pilots, visitors will also be able to register to take part in flights with some of the crews in order to savour the spectacular scenery of Lim Mong valley.

Furthermore, a number of community-based tours have been organised to take place from May 18 until the end of June in the communes of Che Cu Nha, La Pan Tan, De Xu Phinh, Nam Khat, Cao Pha, and in Mu Cang Chai town.
