Viet Nam's import-export turnover was on target to hit US$500 billion this year, said director of the General Department of Customs Nguyen Van Can.
There were nearly 100,000 enterprises involved in imports and exports nationwide, he said.
The department said that as of September, total import-export turnover for the whole country had reached more than $382.16 billion.
If this continued, the country's import and export turnover would reach $510 billion by the end of the year.
Generally speaking, imports and exports usually climb at the end of the year thanks to national holidays like National Day (September 2), New Year (January 1) and then Tet (Lunar New Year).
The country's total import-export turnover reached only $243.5 billion in the first six months.
But entering the third quarter, total turnover reached $138.7 billion.
If this continues, the total annual turnover will reach over $520 billion for the year. — VNS
