HCM City are undefeated through two matches in the AFC Cup group stage thanks to the impressive performance of striker Nguyen Cong Phuong, Amido Balde and Son.

Phuong and Balde have scored five goals for the 2019 V.League 1 runners-up, but Son really caught the eye.

“After playing a part in the Vietnamese side’s maiden AFC Cup goal in the 2-2 draw against Yangon United, the midfielder truly came to light on matchday two,” said the website.

“Son’s pinpoint deliveries into the box created all three of HCM City goals in a 3-2 away victory at Singapore’s Hougang United as the V.League 1 club moved to the top of the standings,” the website added.

The 27-year-old now has more assists than any other player after two games, while he is also second in the chances created charts with 10.

Besides Son, the AFC website also picked Ahmed Ersan of Al Faisaly, Stipe Plazibat of Hougang United, Isa Al Anezi of Manama and OJ Porteria of Ceres-Negros. VNS
