The event is part of Saigon Classical Music group’s From Alpha to Opera project introducing famous operas with Vietnamese and English subtitles.
The four-act comic opera was composed by Mozart in 1786, in collaboration with Lorenzo da Ponte, who also wrote the librettos for Don Giovanni and Così Fan Tutte.
Based on Pierre Caron de Beaumarchais’ controversial play Le Mariage de Figaro, the opera is about servants Figaro and Susanna, who plan to get married, but their master Count Almaviva has designs on Susanna and is determined to stop the wedding.
The Royal Opera’s production stars Christian Gerhaher as Figaro and Joėlle Harvey as Susanna.
Prior to the screening, composer Tran Nhu Vinh Lac will hold a talk on the opera.
The program runs from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Grand Saigon Ballroom of Mai House Saigon in District 3. SGT
