A scene in the Abominable which shows China's unilaterally declared nine-dash line

DreamWorks Animation and Shanghai-based Pearl Studio produced the film about a Chinese girl Yi who discovers a yeti living on her roof. The animated feature was first shown in Vietnam on October 4. Abominable was quickly pulled from Vietnamese cinemas for including a scene featuring a map which shows China's unilaterally declared nine-dash line in the East Sea.
On October 14, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong was asked to review and punish people involved in the evaluating and rating process.
The ministry reprimanded Nguyen Thi Thu Ha and Ly Phuong Dung, director and deputy director of the Vietnam Cinema Department respectively. Two employees, Khuat Duy Tan and Tran Trung Dung were reprimanded. The ministry also reprimanded Nguyen Danh Duong, director of the National Cinema Centre.
Related agencies will work together to improve the employees' abilities and equipment at the Vietnam Cinema Department. The Cinema Law may be revised to tighten the movie rating process and clarify the responsibilities of the studios and distributors.
