Speaking to the media ahead of their Sunday training session, head coach Park Hang-seo touched upon the key goals targeted by him and his partners for the gathering.

“I decide to summon the players to enable them to get back to the pace at the national team. They have their own role and tasks when playing for their clubs, but in the national quad, I want them to be aware of their role and position as well. I think this is the most important goal for this camp,” Park said.

He added that the gathering will allow the coaching staff to make tactical adjustments and test the capabilities of some new players.

“Each position on the field has new players and I want them to have active competition with others towards building a team of better quality,” the Republic of Korea (ROK) tactician said.

“We will organise the team’s activities in a new manner. We plan to divide the players into three groups to discus and, share their views on the goals and tasks for 2021, thus helping each of them to be aware of how to achieve those goals. This is also what I am expecting within this gathering”.

When asked about the return of veteran striker Nguyen Van Quyet (Hanoi FC), Park said: “Van Quyet is always in the list of our concern. Watching Hanoi FC’s matches, I can see that Quyet always played very well. The door of the national team is always open to all players, but competition is needed for them to advance forward together. Therefore, I do not see any special reason for calling up Quyet to the national team for this camp”.

According to the head coach, Vietnam’s 3-4-3 formation has been comprehended by many opponents. That is also why he has decided to summon new players and prepare new tactics for the team.

As scheduled, the Vietnamese national team will maintain daily training in Hanoi from December 6 to 28, during which they will play two friendly matches with the Vietnam U22 squad. Nhan Dan
