If the VFF approves the recommendation, Mr. Gong Oh Kyun will lead the U23 Vietnam squad at the U23 Asian Championships and the 19th Asian Games (Asiad) in 2022.
Mr. Gong Oh Kyun is an experienced coach in South Korea. He used to be assistant coach at the Korean young national teams from U17 to U23. He and the U20 won the runner-up position at the 2019 U20 World Finals.
Recently, the Korean coach also worked as an assistant to head coach Shin Tae Yong at the Indonesia national squad.
Oh-kyun, 47, is currently working as an assistant coach for Seoul E-Land FC in the K League 1. He holds an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Coaching License Level A and is also studying for AFC Pro level.
When he was a football player, Mr. Gong Oh Kyun played for several famous football clubs in South Korea and in Australia.
With a good record, and recommendation by Coach Park Hang Seo, it is very likely that Mr. Gong Oh Kyun will be chosen by VFF to replace Mr. Park to lead Vietnam U23 after the 31st SEA Games.
