With the hobby of collecting indigenous dog breeds for many years, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, 35, from Thach Thanh District in Thanh Hoa province, has searched for information about indigenous dog breeds of Vietnam.

One day, he realized that he had a special love for the rare Lai dog breed. According to Tuan Anh, the Lai dog is a breed with more developed senses than normal dogs, with a very high connection with their masters, and from that connection it will be loyal to the master. They never abandon their masters. Lai dogs reach maturity in shape and character when they are 3 years old.

"According to legend, in ancient times, the Lai dog was highly worshiped by Dai Viet warriors. In fact, archaeologists have discovered many ancient tombs where dogs were buried with their masters in Da But in Thanh Hoa province. They also uncovered many objects like daggers, short battle axes, combs, cups, bronze drum faces with Lai dog motifs,” Tuan Anh said.

The Lai dog was also sculpted for worshiping as they are considered a symbol of loyalty, and that can bring luck and happiness, victory and success to their masters or the owners of their statues.

With his passion for raising the Lai dog to protect a rare animal genetic source of Vietnam, Tuan Anh hopes that in the near future, this breed will receive love from the local dog breeder community.

The weight of a female Lai dog averages about 15-18kg and the male 18-26kg.

The typical feature of the Lai dog is that it has a triangular face; long towards the nose, and if it is observed directly or from the sides, the angle is a triangle.

 The tail is like a mop and also a rudder.
