Dang Vu Tuan Son, President of the Vietnam Astronomy and Cosmology Association, says in fact the Geminids meteor shower can be seen in early December, but the most ideal time is the early hours of Dec. 14 when the Geminids is at its best.

It is the early hours of Dec. 14 when the sky is not obstructed by the moonlight, creating ideal conditions for people to see the phenomenon, says Son.

According to weather forecasts, there will be no moon in the sky overnight and the meteors will be easier to spot.

When observing the meteor shower in good weather condition, viewers do not need to use any optical aids, binoculars or telescopes, but only with naked eyes.

According to NASA, as many as 150 meteors an hour, with intermittent fireballs possible, could be visible around the peak, which would be centered near 2 a.m. Monday.

About half that number would fill the sky on the preceding and succeeding nights, but that would rival or exceed the peak of the Perseids. VOV
