Conor McNamara, General Manager of AWS Southeast Asia, told ICTnews that most businesses in all industries, from large enterprises, small and medium sized enterprises, and startups to the public sector In Southeast Asia, saw growth in the use of cloud computing in many activities. It is similar to Vietnam where more businesses have turned to cloud computing to digitize business operations and built new business models to respond to the pandemic.

He acknowledged that the banking and finance sector has undergone strong digital transformation in the past year in both Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Although the number of businesses applying cloud computing has increased in Vietnam, McNamara said that businesses face challenges in connecting cloud computing and on-premises data.

Vietnam is one of the first countries where AWS launched the AWS Outposts service. This cloud solution helps businesses solve the problem of using cloud computing services consistently on their entire IT infrastructure while still linked with on-premises data.

Regarding digital transformation related to cloud computing, he pointed out three main factors.

First, Southeast Asia is driving a wave of innovation, relying on a digital workforce that is equipped to meet the growing demand for cloud computing. The current workforce must be trained in the next five years.

Next, the number of startups in the cloud platform is on the rise. These firms can take advantage of digital platforms in the cloud to make services available to anyone, anywhere.

Finally, many financial institutions in the region are using cloud technology to tap underserved markets. This promotes demand for financial services in many non-urban areas, furthering understanding of digital finance while ensuring safety and security.
