Major fuel trader Trinh Suong, chairman and director of My Hung Co., Ltd, in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang, is among the accused.

Speaking at a press briefing on June 6, the provincial police department said it had broken up the ring, the local media reported.

During police raids staged between May 28 and June 2, these fake fuel makers were caught mixing solvents with colored powder to produce fake fuels at six locations in HCMC, the Mekong Delta region of Can Tho City and the Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces.

The provincial police department said that investigators had seized 3.2 million liters of solvents, of which 2.1 million liters had been turned into fake fuels.

Also, investigators temporarily seized three boats, six vehicles, five pumps, 50 kilograms of colored powder and some other relevant exhibits.

The Police Department of the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong, in association with units under the Ministry of Public Security and the police in relevant provinces, are working together to further the investigation of the fake fuel ring. SGT
