The election of deputies to the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels, which took place on May 23, is an opportunity for the elderly to review the history of the nation through elections, adding honor and pride to the next generation when exercising their citizenship rights and obligations.

At 5:30 a.m., at a house on Tran Phu street, Hanoi, Mrs. Doan Thi Thuan, 96, got up early to prepare for the big day. Descendants of four generations also gathered early at the house of Mrs. Thuan to go to vote together.

Mrs. Doan Thi Thuan was one of the first to cast a ballot at polling station No. 2, Dien Bien ward at 6:30 a.m.

Thuan was born in Thai Binh province. She moved to Hanoi when she was 5 years old. Her life has experienced many ups and downs associated with important events of the country.

As an elderly voter, Thuan received special attention from the local government. According to her daughter Tran Thi Minh Thu, Mrs. Thuan did morning exercise and burned incense for her ancestors before going to the polling station.
