The city’s Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sub-Department along with local authorities reported on June 10 that a pig flock belonging to a local resident in Phu Huu ward, district 1, showed signs of suffering from the ASF epidemic.

The results of the samples taken from the contaminated pig-farming household were found positive for the ASF virus.

Immediately after being notified of the results, the city’s Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sub-Department, in co-ordination with the district 9 People’s Committee and Phu Huu ward, began the process of decontaminating the area.

All 163 of the pig flock and leftover food were destroyed while lime powder was put throughout the breeding area. Disinfectants were also sprayed at swine burial sites.

Between June 11 and June 18, relevant units plan to provide disinfectants to seven pig-farming households located in Phu Huu ward, which are home to a total of 506 pigs.

The pig farming households are required to sterilize their breeding facilities three times per week for the next three consecutive weeks. Furthermore, these households are requested not to sell pigs for the next 30 days.

There are 29 pig-farming households located in the high-risk zone close to the affected areas, which will be provided with chemicals to implement disinfection and sterilization.

The district 9 People’s Committee have set up two quarantine checkpoints close to Ong Nhieu and Xay Dung bridges in order to strictly monitor the transportation of pigs and pork products whilst also sterilizing vehicles. VOV
