Following joint efforts between the anti-drugs enforcement unit of Nghe An Customs Department, Ky Son Police, and both the Keng Du and My Ly border guard stations, a Laotian national was caught red-handed in Keo Con town of Keng Du commune at 13:15 on August 25.
The suspect was arrested in the process of transporting 5,200 pills of synthetic drugs and one kg of opium across the border into Vietnam.
The suspect was subsequently identified as Thoong Dam Kham Vieng Xay, a 27-year-old of Xiangkhouang province in Laos.
Upon being questioned the Laotian suspect went on to confess that he had been hired to transport the drugs across the border into Vietnam.
The case is currently being investigated further.
