First-year student Dong Ngoc Ha is named among top 50 finalists for Global Student Prize 2021.
 

The finalists shortlisted for this year’s prize have been selected from over 3,500 nominations and applications from 94 countries and territories around the world.

Candidates who apply for the Global Student Prize are assessed on a range of criteria, including their academic achievement, impact on their peers, and how they made a difference within their local community.

The winner is due to be announced at an awards ceremony to be held in Paris in November and will receive a cash prize of US$100,000.

As a student, Ha has contributed plenty to his community, particularly through his work tutoring classmates in biology, serving as an Olympiad trainer, and organising numerous academic events and activities.

In 2019 he founded the Biology For All Vietnam project which was the first pro-bono scheme of its kind for gifted students in Vietnam, before going on to lead a team of seven lecturers to teach National Biology Olympiad teams in 10 provinces across the country.

Ha has also received a number of awards, including the Labour Order (Third Class) in recognition of his outstanding achievements in labour, creativity, and national construction. This is in addition to a silver medal at the International Biology Olympiad 2020 and First Prize at the Vietnam Biology Olympiad 2020.
