Chinese visitors accounted for up to 70% of Nha Trang’s total tourists. However, since Khanh Hoa Province’s request to suspend Chinese tourism for the deadly virus fears, visitors to the locality have considerably dropped.

Some restaurants in Nha Trang City have had to temporarily close due to the sharp customer fall amid the coronavirus spread

Four to five-star hotels have seen a room coverage rate of just 30-40%. Meanwhile, many seafood restaurants on main streets such as Tran Phu or Pham Van Dong have forced to shut down after failing to cover operating costs.

An owner of a newly-opened restaurant on Pham Van Dong Street which focuses on serving Chinese tourists said the restaurant would be closed for at least three months while waiting for the epidemic to be brought under control. He hoped that authorities would consider reducing taxes for restaurants which are suffering from the fall in customers since the epidemic broke.

Hoang Van Vinh, chairman of Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Tourism Association admitted the adverse impacts on the local tourism industry, saying that some luxury hotels in Nha Trang had seen their room occupancy rates plunge to just around 10%.

A representative from Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism said that the department would draft plan this weekend to address the issue. Dtinews
