Primary students in HCM City

According to the municipal Department of Education and Training, the city’s student number would increase by 75,500 in the 2019-2020 academic year, around 9,000 higher than the last academic year.

Of the sum, secondary schools accounted for nearly 26,500 students, followed at primary level with 21,700 and then high schools and nurseries.

District 7, 9 and 12 and Tan Phu, Binh Tan and Thu Duc districts experiencing rapid urbanisation saw the most drastic rise.

The city is expected to have a total 2,400 schools with 46,500 classrooms and 80,800 teachers in the 2019-2020 academic year. The total student number would reach 1.7 million.

By early September, around 1,500 new classrooms are scheduled to be operated, an increase of 1,200 compared to the last academic year.

However, Tan Phu District, which was among those localities with the largest rise in student numbers, will not have any new classrooms this academic year.

The rapid student growth has pressured many schools in HCM City. Many classes have up to 60 students.

By late June this year, the city’s classroom-student ratio was estimated at 278 classrooms for every 10,000 students aged between 3 and 18. By 2020, the rate is hoped to reach 300 classrooms for every 10,000 people. Dtinews
