MOET honors students winning prizes at international competitions

 

In 2021, MOET sent seven teams with 37 excellent students to Olympiads, including one group attending Asia Pacific Informatics Olympiad, one to Asia Pacific Physics Olympiad and seven to international Olympiads of mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics and informatics.

All the contestants won prizes at the competitions, including 12 gold medals, 13 silver, 10 bronze and 2 consolation prizes. Vietnamese students were among the top 10 countries with highest achievements at international competitions with many students winning the highest scores.

At Asia Pacific APIO ( Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad), all six Vietnamese students won prizes, including 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze. The achievements put Vietnam into the fourth position, after China, Iran and Japan.

At APhO (Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO), the 8-member team won 2 gold medals, 1 silver, 3 bronze and 2 certificates of merit. Nguyen Manh Quan from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted got the highest score and received a certificate of merit from the APhO president.

At IMO (International Mathematics Olympiad), all six competitors won prizes, including one gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze, which put Vietnam into the fourth position among 107 countries.

At IPhO (International Physics Olympiad), the five Vietnamese students won 3 gold and 2 silver medals.

At IChO (international Chemistry Olympiad), all Vietnamese students got medals, including three gold and 1 silver. Vietnam ranked the third, after China and Russia.

At IBO (International Biology Olympiad), the Vietnamese team of four selected students won 1 gold medal, 2 silver and 1 bronze.

At International Olympiad in Informatics, all the four students won silver medals.

Vietnam also had seven projects attending REGENERON ISEF 2021. One project won official prize of the competition and two obtained special prizes awarded by science and technology institutions and businesses.

The official prize was awarded for the robot arms for people with full arm paralysis designed by Pham Duc Linh and Nguyen Duc An from Han Thuyen High School in Bac Ninh.

The special prizes belonged to the research project on high-school students’ psychological difficulties when studying online by Hoang Viet Phuc, Vu Phuong Mai of Lao Cai High School for the Gifted; and a project on stimulating math thinking by Huynh Dang Khoa and Le Anh Chau from Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School in Thua Thien-Hue.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do said the high achievements of Vietnamese students at international competitions in 2021, and 2017-2021 in general are proof of the relentless efforts by students, teachers and schools in the path of reaching the pinnacle of knowledge.

MOET has also awarded certificates of merit to 21 teachers who selected, trained and organized national teams of selected students to attend international competitions.
