Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot, registered 70 cases, followed by Dong Thap 5 and Long An 2.
One death each was reported in Tra Vinh, Bac Ninh and Vinh Long.
Except for Bac Ninh, the remaining five localities are in southern Vietnam.
The new cases raised Vietnam’s death toll caused by COVID-19 and other underlying illnesses to 334, including 299 cases documented during the latest coronavirus outbreak that started in late April.
Most of the deaths were elderly patients who suffered from underlying illnesses such as hypertension, cancer, severe pneumonia, multi-organ failure, and diabetes (type II).
Vietnam is battling with the fourth outbreak of COVID-19, with the virus spreading to 58 out of 63 cities and provinces across the country and more than 51,000 new cases confirmed.
