Located in Kim Chung Commune, 15km west of Hanoi, the village has been recognised as the birthplace of photography in Vietnam. The village is also the hometown of many talented photographers and scholars, including “father of photography in Vietnam” Khanh Ky, who taught photography to Ho Chi Minh, and Dr. Nguyen Van Huyen (1908-1975) – a historian, ethnologist, cultural researcher, and Minister of Education for 29 years.

The excursion will start with a visit to Nguyen Van Huyen Museum in the village. The guide will be Nguyen Van Huy (founding director of the Museum of Ethnology), who set up the museum dedicated to his father. The museum exhibits over 400 objects and documents on the life and career of Nguyen Van Huyen and his family. The visit will give members a greater insight into the society, politics and history of Vietnam.

After lunch, the group will visit the Lai Xa photography museum, the brainchild of leading village/community figures. The villagers funded the construction themselves and the designers have employed modern technology for the installation of the exhibits.

The excursion will take place from 9am until 5pm. Cost: VND350,000/adult, VND180,000/child under 15 years old. Limit: 14 people.

Exhibition features life of Luminor Photo' owner

A documentary photo exhibition about the life of Nguyen Van Chanh, owner of the famous Luminor Photo photography stores in the North of Vietnam during the French colonial period, is running at Matca Space for Photography in Hanoi.
