Outbox Consulting cited a report of Klook, the travel booking platform with total mobilized capital of up to $300 million, as saying that in Asia the number of solo tourists on the platform rose from 31 percent in 2017 to 38 percent in 2018.

The consultancy firm noted that the solo tourism community has expanded rapidly. In January 2018, ‘solo travel’ and ‘travel alone’ became the key words most searched for on Google.

According to booking.com, of the people aged 50-64 using booking platform in 2018, up to 40 percent traveled alone in the year before and 21 percent may travel alone in the future.

Experts commented that with deep understanding domestic destinations, Vietnam’s firms will have advantages in optimizing products and services by individualizing travelers’ local experiences, one of the important requirements of the solo tourism market.

Paul Pruangkarn from Pacific Tourism Association (PATA), commented that more and more people like to travel alone. Travel firms need to understand the growing tendency to satisfy the requirements of travelers.

In the context of the technology boom and the strong rise of smart tourism, travelers can easily find destinations, and book restaurant and hotel services, resorts and air tickets.

Bharat Nagpal from TripAdvisor said that the comments left on apps and online tourism webs by travelers who used services affect decisions by other travelers.

Analysts believe that solo tourism will see a boom, but warn that that travel firms will have to overcome challenges to be able to exploit the market with special requirements.

The first challenge for domestic firms, familiar with traditional products and slow to change, is that they need to understand travelers to offer flexible products suitable to all of them.

In related news, a report released in August 2019 showed that Vietnam`s outbound tourism grows 10-15 percent annually. If in 2012, Vietnamese made 4.8 million trips abroad, in 2018, the figure almost doubled to 8.6 million.

Meanwhile, the General Statistics Office announced on June 29 reported that the number of foreign tourists to Vietnam in the first six months of 2018 surged 27.2 percent year-on-year to 7.89 million.
