According to the provincial People’s Committee, strong winds, high waves, and prolonged heavy rains battered the coast, causing serious erosion and damage at position K25+570. Concrete structures were swept away, and the waves carved out large cavities, undermining the dyke’s stability. The continued pounding of the sea has worsened the situation, threatening the safety of the entire coastal protection system.
To protect the dyke, about 1,200 responders were mobilized, including 200 police officers, 500 border guards, and hundreds of local forces.
Colonel Tran Van Duong, Deputy Political Commissar of Zone 3 – Dong A Defense Command, said 150 officers were dispatched immediately after the incident. They joined local responders in stacking sandbags and reinforcing the collapsed section.
“All forces remain on high alert at the site, fully equipped with manpower and materials to respond promptly to any escalation,” he said.
Large quantities of concrete blocks, rock-filled gabions, sand, and machinery have been brought in to stabilize the dyke. Preventive measures have also been put in place to prepare for possible worsening conditions as waves remain strong.
