VietNamNet Bridge - Filling a cassava garden, a family in Quang Tri Province, central Vietnam, panicked when an excavator dug up a shell of nearly 1 ton in weight at a depth of over three meters.

This giant shell was discovered on November 2 at the garden of a family in An Xa Hamlet of Trung Son Commune, Gio Linh District. The shell was reported intact.
A mobile explosive detection and disposal team of MAG Organization was present at the site to handle the shell on the morning of November 4. They moved the shell to the specialized area for disposal.
Experts said that this was a 16-inch HC-MK13 shell fired from US warships in wartime.
This kind of shell is commonly used to destroy bunkers and fortifications, with the damage range within a radius of 1 km2. The shell has weight of nearly 1 ton and a diameter of 0.4 meters and 1.3 meters long.
The shell was detected about a 100 meters from a railway.
